Recommended Summer Reads

My recommended summer reading list. I don’t get paid to recommend these. They’re just books I like: Sci-fi, Christian, nonreligious, biography, spirituality. What books do you recommend?

The Seal of the Spirit

Whoever you are, right this minute, imagine that God accepts you, and that He calls you holy, pure, blameless. And not because He’s just tolerant, but because you are holy to Him. Not after you clean up. Not after you deal with some things. Right now. This minute. What would that feel like?

Yom Kippur: A Sacrifice of Atonement

Since the Temple and the Levitical priesthood are no longer in Jerusalem, many hope that living a good life, obeying some of the other Levitical Laws, and praying will be enough to cover their sins. But the blood atonement for our sins has been eternally fulfilled in the sacrifice of Jesus.

The Third Way Video

In light of the over-the-top bickering that erupted with the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage in the US, I want to share this short documentary sponsored by the Catholic church. I’ve written on this subject before (here), and I’m not going to join in the bickering, so this will be it. I’m not Catholic, but I find this documentary highlighting gay men and lesbians in the church to be respectful, loving, and Scripturally sound–unlike most of what I hear on this subject. If you’re a Christian, please bookmark this and make some time to watch it. It’s 38 minutes long.

The Pagan Origin of Drinking from Cups

This Sunday, April 1, 2012, countless professing Christians will sit in small groups around open Bibles, sipping drinks from cups.

A little Kwanzaa lesson

Since I’m not of African-American heritage, I asked Charity Dell–cyber-friend and African-American Hebraic Christian–to write us a little something for Kwanzaa.

Gertruda Bablinska, Righteous Among the Nations

On June 4, 1963, Yad Vashem recognized Gertruda Babilinska, a devout Catholic, as Righteous Among the Nations. Read her story and see video testimony of a Jewish life saved because of her.
